A company for which a Platte City alderman serves as chairman of the board has been issued a cease and desist order from the Missouri Secretary of State. Ron Porter, elected as alderman in April, has served as chairman of the board of Spectrum Pet Foods. The cease and desist order was issued in late May against Frank Renick and his companies, including Spectrum Pete Foods, Spectrum Pet Care, Inc., and SPC Brands, Inc. It is alleged Renick and his companies sold more than $6 million n unregistered stocks and bonds and allegedly misled at least 700 investors in more than four states about those products. Porter, who is hospitalized this week with pneumonia, told The Landmark in a phone interview from the hospital that he personally is not under any type of investigation.
