Some Platte City residents joined the George family in a day-long celebration Saturday with the grand opening of Jeff’s True Value Hardware, formerly Eggen’s True Value. Jeff George paused to accept a proclamation from Mayor Frank Offutt recognizing the grand opening of the store, located at 2300 Kentucky Avenue, Platte City. Jeff has been managing the store for several years before purchasing it from Keith Eggen. Jeff’s mother, Joy George, reflected that “it is a very special day for Jeff, as he has always been interested in serving the residents of Platte City.”
Due to water entry from multiple locations at the Platte City Civic Center, 900 Fourth Street, the public safety subcommittee will recommend to aldermen that the city move forward with plans for a change. “It doesn’t just dribble, it pours in like your outside rain,” said Carl Mitchell, police chief. “It saturates the carpet and the flooring underneath and it’s gotten to the point where we have had a couple of close calls with computer equipment.”

Platte County Sheriff’s Department officials have not yet confirmed the identify of the victim, though multiple sources say the young lady–in her early 20s–worked at the Casey’s General Store in Platte City.
