Platte City’s annual Memorial Day service at the local cemetery was held Monday, with Nathanial Stevenson, a U.S. Army Command instructor, as the featured speaker. Local Boy Scouts and members of the VFW Post 4055 also took part. Mayor Frank Offutt read the names of local veterans who have died within the past year.


Local judges will not be involved in hearing matters related to a DWI charge against a Platte County attorney who sits on the commission that recommends candidates for Platte County judgeship positopns. Lee Hull, presiding judge of the Sixth Judicial Circuit Court, has asked the Missouri Supreme Court to assign a new judge in all matters related to the DWI charge facing James D. Boggs of Platte County. Boggs is charged with DWI from an incident that occurred north of Weston in late January.

Zona Rosa has announced that well- known comedian Dana Carvey will be the featured act at an annual charity event benefitting Synergy Services to be held Oct. 1 at the Improv Comedy Club at Zona Rosa.


Captain Kent Pine of the Central Platte Fire Department was released from the hospital on Tuesday, more than three weeks after being one of the five firefighters hurt in a head-on crash of department pumper trucks. Pine posted on his Facebook page that he was “resting comfortably” at home.
