A Platte County teenager is accused of beating two girls in the head with a hammer while they were playing outdoors in Ferrelview. He had been constructing a tree house when he allegedly lost control and injured the young girls. A 15-year-old juvenile was arrested shortly after the incident at his home and transported to the Clay County Juvenile Detention Center where he is being detained. A hearing was held Tuesday morning at the Platte County Courthouse where he and his parents were present. The parents of the two young girls were present in the audience.

Terry Blanton, chief of police for the City of Weston, was listed in serious condition Tuesday after a three-vehicle crash in Buchanan County. The accident occurred on Hwy. 116. Blanton was in a Chevy pickup shortly before 4 p.m. when it apparently crested a hill near the Route MM intersection and crossed into westbound traffic on Hwy. 116. Reports indicate the pickup struck the rear tire of a farm tractor, continued into the driver’s door of a Dodge pickup and then overturned three or four times. Blanton was extricated and taken by helicopter to Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph.
