William Peck of Kansas City in Platte County was recently honored for outstanding academic achievement at Maple Woods Community College. Peck was given the President’s Award by Maple Woods President Stephen Brainaard. The award is given annually to two students who earn the highest overall grade point averages while working toward an associate in arts or associate in applied science degree. Peck was among 13 students honored during the college’s 17th annual Student Recognition Dinner.

A pickup truck with a bucket of swine manure in the bed was parked next to the front door of the North Platte Elementary School Thursday night at a meeting of a group of concerned citizens opposing a proposed 6,000 sow farrowing operation. As the sign says, the bucket contained 10% swine manure and 90% water, in reference to a lagoon that would be outside the proposed total confinement facility. The lagoon would contain 98% water, combined with 2% liquids off the initial flushing of swine waste.
Platte County Commissioners endorsed the package of incentives that attracted the Harley-Davison Motor Co. Harley-Davidson has announced plans to build a plant on a 320-acre site at Northwest 112th Street and Congress Avenue in Platte County. An incentive package that included local government entities was put together by the City of Kansas City in their efforts to attract the motorcycle company to Platte County.
