The Platte County R-3 School Board will conduct a public hearing at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 9, at the Platte County Area Vocational Technical School on a proposed $4.82 tax levy for the coming term. The proposed levy is the same as for the 1980-81 term, Gerald Hart, superintendent, said. It includes $2.21 per $100 valuation for the teacher fund, $1.80 incidental, 17 cents for building and 64 cents for debt services. Hart said the district’s proposed 1981-82 budget is $3,682,668. The biggest portion of it, $1,950,253, would be earmarked for teacher salaries, he said.
An estimated 1,000 people turned out for the various events of the second annual Zed Martin Founder’s Day held in Platte City as the Fourth of July celebration. Events ranged from a swimming meet to a fish fry, beard contest, home talent show, Zed Martin lookalike contest, fireworks display, a beer garden, dancing and a midnight swim. Marilyn Baskett, Zed Martin Day chairman, termed it a success and said plans are already underway for next year.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob J. Ricker of Lake Zurich, Ill. have announced the engagement and upcoming marriage of their daughter, Beverly, to Robert Leachman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walt Leachman, Jr., of Platte City.
