Under fire. That’s where the West Platte Fire Department finds itself this week. A week after a fire at Old Geezer’s Mantiques in downtown Weston left 65-year-old shop owner George Treese dead, several local residents attended a meeting of the city’s aldermen to air questions and concerns about the fire department’s response to the blaze.
Recently hired Platte City police officer Matthew McCombs was sworn in for duty Tuesday night by Amy Hubbard, city clerk. The ceremony was attended by several of McCombs’ family members, including his wife and two sons, ages one and three, the younger of whom joined his dad for the latter half of the swearing-in.

It is far and away the most luxurious structure in Weston. All brick. Huge. Looks like a government-funded castle. Don’t let the Platte County R-3 school administrators see that thing. They’ll be jealous and want a new Taj Mahal of their own.
As of now, the 148th Annual Platte County Fair is on for July 20-23, despite rumors that the threat of high water would force postponement or relocation.
