Donna Sue Miller, Gower, and Charles (Loren) Reed, Dearborn, are announcing their approaching marriage. The wedding will be held Saturday, June 29, 1996 at 6 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Dearborn, Second and July Streets. The future groom is the son of Charles and Wilma Reed of Dearborn. His fiance’s parents are deceased.


Carl and Cliffie Goodin, Platte City, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 8, 1996. The couple has two daughters, Mrs. John (Carlene) Coffey and Mrs. Edward (Rusanne) Willis; four grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. All of the family celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Hoof & Horn Restaurant, St. Joseph. The celebration was hosted by their daughters, Carlene and Rusanne.

It can be tough following in the footsteps of a legend. The previous police chief at Camden Point became legendary for all the wrong reasons after being charged with making unauthorized telephone calls to a 1-900 psychic hotline on the city’s phone. Now, his replacement is busy trying to clean up the small town police department’s reputation and occasionally takes a little bit of grief in the process. “I get a lot of ribbing about the 900 numbers,” says Curtis Welch. “It’s done with good nature, though.”
