When it came time for appointments of aldermen to various committees, boards and commissions, newly-elected Platte City alderman Ron Porter had a question. “How come I’m on four committees and I see some people are on only two or none at all?” Porter asked Mayor Frank Offutt, who makes the committee assignments with the approval of the aldermen. Porter, who was voted in as alderman after Andy Stanton did not seek reelection in April, said his schedule may become a problem. He said that while he is retired, he is chairman of the board for Spectrum Pet Foods, Inc., and in that role he may be required to be out of town on occasion.
