Eric Elam, general manager of the Best Western, Platte City, said the storm drew about 60 walk-in room rentals from passersby pulling off the highway due to the poor driving conditions or whose vehicles had become too damaged to drive. “The following day, I had an additional 35 people just stuck here because of their car damage,” Elam said. “Some had to have windshields replaced. Some had to get towed out. We had some here that were literally totaled from the hail damage.”
