Son P. Nguyen, 21, of Kansas City, will spend 20 days in the Platte County Jail for his role in a shooting incident last April at Park Hill High School. Nguyen admitted that he drove a car carrying the man who fired three .45 caliber bullets into a Park Hill student’s vehicle. No one was injured. He pled guilty to two counts of assault and was sentenced Thursday in Platte County Circuit Court. The judge suspended execution of sentence but did impose the 120 days in jail as “shock time.” Nguyen cooperated with authorities and testified against two other defendants.

Platte County Prosecuting Attorney Todd Graves has charged a juvenile, Christopher J. Sweeten, 16, of Belton, with one count of robbery in the first degree and one count of armed criminal action for his alleged involvement in a Dec. 15, 1995 robbery at the Circle K convenience store in Parkville. A Cass County juvenile court judge certified Sweeten to stand trial as an adult. Offenders under the age of 17 are normally prosecuted in the juvenile system.
