Four students from the Platte County R-3 High School will visit various foreign countries this summer as part of the Americans Abroad program. Gary Witt, Tami Jones, Kevin Flanigan and Suzanne Reed will take part in the program, spending time in Israel, South Africa, Mexico, and Tunisia, respectively.


Mr. and Mrs. Elmer (Butch) Norris became the parents of a five pound, 12 ounce baby girl on June 5 at Spelman Memorial Hospital. Her name is Tiffany Lynn. Paternal grandparents are Ruby Conrad and Junior Norris. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Norman Lawson of Riverside.

Harold Ensley, “The Sportsman’s Friend,” will make an appearance at Metro North Shopping Center on Saturday, June 20 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. One of the world’s foremost fresh-water sport fisherman, Ensley will lecture and demonstrate on stage and will be available to answer questions from the audience. “The Sportsman’s Friend,” Harold’s weekly half-hour audience TV program, has been aired in the Heart of America since 1953.


Rhonda Welch, Riverside, and Marianne Chenault, Kansas City, were half of the KC Metro 4-H Horse Bowl Team which won the state contest in Columbia on June 3. They will compete on Oct. 3 in Pennsylvania.
