An announcement of a new superintendent for Platte County R-3 Schools is expected soon, possibly by the end of this week. The R-3 Board of Education last week conducted interviews of the top five candidates. Don Siegrist, current superintendent, is retiring in the summer.


An investigation by the Platte County Sheriff’s Office has resulted in the police chief of Camden Point being charged with making $20,000 in unauthorized calls to a psychic hotline. Camden Point Police Chief Thomas T. Tobin has been charged with felony stealing by deceit in the case, authorities said. Major Greg Crader of the Platte County Sheriff’s Office said Tobin was arrested on Jan. 3 and posted a $5,000 bond.

Platte County High School courtwarming king and queen, Adam Kelly and Amanda Eggen, were crowned recently before the girls varsity game against Plattsburg. The Community 2000 anti-drug group donated $200 worth of Pizza Hut pizzas for the “Totally 80s” dance Thursday, Dec. 21.


An area seventh grade basketball team won the championship at a Raytown South tournament held Dec. 28-30. The team went 4-0 in the tournament play, winning the final game 48-18. Members of the team include Todd Jaros, Bob Zubeck, Kyle Stegeman, Nick Dawson, Justin Salsbury, Mel Hicks, Brandon Gutshall and A.J. Houldsworth.
