A couple of inches of snow on Thursday, then 4-5 more inches Friday kept road crews busy in Platte City and the surrounding area last week. City of Platte City crews cleaned the center of Main Street, then came back later to scoop out areas that had been blocked by parked cars.


Mr. and Mrs. Bill Wright, Platte City, announce the engagement of their daughter, Jennifer Marie, to Mitchell Owen Poindexter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Darrel Poindexter of Drexel. Grandparents of the bride are Mr. and Mrs. Gene Wright, Platte City, and Mrs. Marjory Holt Wolf and the late Leonard Holt, Platte City. Grandparents of the groom are Mr. and Mrs. Philip Poindexter, Drexel, Mo. and the late Mr. and Mrs. Lester Bourland, Butler, Mo. The future bride and groom are both seniors in engineering at the University of Missouri-Rolla. The wedding will be held Saturday, July 27, 1996 at the First Christian Church, Platte City.

Samnang Duong has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his involvement in a drive-by shooting near the Park Hill High School on April 11, 1995. Duong supplied the weapon in the drive-by shooting that involved several Park Hill students. No one was injured in the shooting. He was sentenced by Judge Ward B. Stuckey in Platte County Circuit Court. San S. Hean, 19, Kansas City, was sentenced in October of 1995 to 30 years in prison. He was the shooter.
