James R. Cockriel of Platte City loaded up his vehicle Friday morning as he got ready to go out on his rural mail route for the Platte City Post Office, just as he has done for the past 26 years in all kinds of weather. Things were a little different this morning, however, for “Jim-Bob,” as he is affectionately called by his fellow postal workers. He had just received an award from the National Safety Council for his safe driving record. Called “The Million Miles” award, it is given for 25,000 accident-free hours of driving and not many people get the award.
Like a vote of confidence in the future, the new Ambassador II office building rises next to the existing Ambassador I in Air World Center at KCI Airport as workers of the J.E. Dunn Construction Company make progress despite cold weather. A.W. Zimmer and Company is developer and manager of the Air World Center project.
Fred Kemmer, a 22-year Kansas City sales executive, is honored in Dallas, Tex. in November for winning first place in the Kraft National Margarine Merchandising contest. Fred and his wife, Shirley, live in Platte City.
Kenneth J. Rothman, Missouri’s newly-elected lieutenant governor and former speaker of the Missouri House of Representatives, will be the featured speaker at the fourth annual banquet of the Platte County Business and Professional Association.
