Team Tony Bandwagon ride, batteries and such

Foley makes fun of me when I take a ride on the Team Tony Bandwagon, but here we go again. I’m stepping on board. The Missouri Times does a fantastic job each political season of laying out the case for some statewide officeholders of the future. Our boy, Platte County Senator Tony Luetkemeyer, makes the list every year these days.

Tony’s got some serious cash on hand. The Times reports that he has 1.743 million American dollars ready to propel him to a statewide office, if only he could find just the right fit. The Times is more goo-goo about Tony than I am. They write, “There really isn’t a part of politics that Senator Luetkemeyer isn’t good at. He has won a tough primary and general, he is one of the best fundraisers in the party and had a very good year as Majority Floor Leader. He has been at the top of these lists for a long time; the only remaining question will be whether he finds the right fit to launch a statewide campaign.”

Damn, I’ve read love letters that were less glowing. Foley tells me that Tony is a judge in waiting, but I still think he might hit the go button for something statewide when the opening happens.

I was kind of disappointed that the Times did not mention Tony’s dog, Truman. That seemed like a bad omission. Truman is part of the Team Tony appeal to the masses. I know that my dog Jude looks up to Truman as a role model and that dog would be wasted lounging around a judge’s chambers chewing on legal briefs. The dog seems like a natural fit for the Governor’s Mansion in my book.

I discovered this week that there are B Batteries. Don’t ask me what got me going on this other than my ADHD hit me in the middle of the night with the question, “Why are there no “B” batteries?” I got plenty of A’s ,C’s, and D’s but never had a B. Seems nearly sexist or racist or something along those lines.

Here’s what Google says happened, “There aren’t any B batteries commonly available because they were a less popular size that failed to gain commercial viability, especially as consumer electronics evolved to favor smaller AA and AAA sizes or larger C and D sizes.”

So, there you have it. You can fill your battery cabinet up with A’s,C’s and D’s and not have to feel like you left someone or something out. Hope you sleep better knowing this.

I hope Team Tony lets me on the bandwagon. I’ve kind of been whiny about that senior property tax freeze and I wonder if my ticket has been revoked. Time will tell. Maybe if I volunteer to clean up after Truman for a week or so I can get a permanent seat, I’ll let you know.

I enjoyed some property tax rate discussion on REDDIT the other day. Don’t read REDDIT without a coping mechanism nearby. It can be brutally honest and sometimes brutally terrible. Anyway, here is one post about the Platte County assessments going up by state mandate:

“I’ve lived in my house for a decade now and the value has doubled with basically no changes to the property value from the county. I’ll play devils advocate and say that we are probably overdue, but I’m sure this gonna be applied in a way that makes no sense and screws over everyone.” -anonymous poster.

That truth probably resonates with more of you than care to admit, but thankfully the state and the state’s valuation process deals in a much grayer area of truth, and they will slap a percentage on this thing and move along to the next cliff.
