A surprise 25th wedding anniversary celebration honoring Mr. and Mrs. A.E. Elam of Excelsior Springs was hosted by their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Amos, Kelly and Tracy, of Ferrelview, on Sunday, Jan. 20 at the Elam’s home.

A two story barn belonging to Bill Hillix of Camden Point burned Tuesday, Jan. 15 at about 6 p.m. Both Platte City and Camden Point Fire Departments responded to the blaze, located two miles east of Camden Point. Hay, soybeans, seeds, and farm equipment were being stored in the structure at the time of the fire. Bill Hillix, Jr., received minor burns on his arms. He was treated at the Smithville Clinic.

A trial date of March 10 has been set for James Peter Pardue in Platte County Circuit Court. Pardue pled not guilty at his arraignment Thursday, Jan. 17 to charges of kidnaping, rape and two counts of sodomy. The charges stem from an incident that is alleged to have occurred during the summer of 1976 at Pardue’s south Platte County apartment. Pardue was accused of bringing a young woman home from a Kansas City bar and, with another man, repeatedly raping and sodomizing her. The woman also claimed she was kept in a wooden box. Pardue and the other man could not be found at the time. Pardue was later convicted on unrelated charges and sentenced to Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary.
