A 24-year-old man died about 12 hours after crashing his pickup into a utility pole at Fourth Street and Hillcrest in Platte City. A 1984 Chevy pickup driven by Mickey Martin of Platte City left the roadway in the 1600 block of Fourth Street and hit the electric pole about 2:37 a.m. on June 16. Martin died at 2:25 p.m. that afternoon at North Kansas City Hospital, according to Platte City Police Chief Carl Mitchell. Mitchell did not yet have an estimate as to the speed at which Martin’s vehicle may have been traveling.
