Gary Witt has been nominated to fill the third of three vacancies on the Missouri Court of Appeals in the Western District. It’s the second time this year that Witt has been nominated for a spot on the appeals court. Witt currently serves as a Platte County Associate Circuit Court judge in the Sixth District. Witt’s name has been submitted to Gov. Jay Nixon along with the names of two other nominees–Judge Jacqueline A. Cook of Lee’s Summit, of the 17th Judicial Circuit; and attorney Cynthia L. Reams Martin. Gov. Nixon now has 60 days to select one of the nominees to fill the vacancy.
Parkville’s Board of Aldermen met briefly Tuesday to approve the tax levy for the next year. The meeting was shortened after the unexpected death of an alderman on Friday. Longtime alderman Dave McCoy, 61, died on Friday, Aug. 14.
Between the Lines by Ivan Foley: Word on the street is that the Platte City Chamber of Commerce’s expectation of a 10 percent drop in memberships this year may turn out to be accurate, but if so it won’t entirely be due to a slower-than-normal economy. Multiple business folks have told me they are letting their memberships expire because they’re unhappy with what they perceive to be less-than-friendly dealings from the paid staff at the chamber. Some of the disgruntled business representatives have been talking among themselves and apparently made a joint decision to let their memberships expire.
