Joseph Gates had always told his wife, Juanita, and their nine children that he would buy Juanita a new car if he won the Missouri Lottery. So when he came home from work on May 14 and announced that a new car was her Mother’s Day present, his family immediately knew what had happened. A SHOW ME 5 ticket that Gates had bought matched all the numbers drawn on May 12 for the $25,000 tax-paid top prize. He purchased the ticket at Muehlbach Apple Market, 91000 NW Hwy. 45 in Parkville.

A crown of nearly 50 people packed inside the Dearborn City Hall Monday night to voice concerns over law enforcement in their town. After concerns had been heard at a lengthy open meeting and following a lengthy executive session, the board of aldermen voted to suspend reserve police officer Robert Vick for 30 days “pending an investigation.” The group had complained of alleged harassment by police, including, they alleged, an elderly couple being stopped by police and forced to stand in the rain, unnecessary car searches, inconsistent enforcement of speed limits and the taking of local residents’ licenses as a form of bond.
