Platte City police say they have a suspect in the string of five burglaries that occurred in the early morning of Saturday, April 26. Platte City Police Chief Jeff Wilson says the suspect is from out of state.

Police believe this suspect was involved in all five burglaries of Fetterman’s Deli, Pizza Shoppe, Sonic, Roxanne’s Café, and Dollar General.

“We are pursuing a strong investigative lead and a case has been submitted to the proper authorities for review and charge consideration,” Wilson said Tuesday afternoon.

Wilson said due to the sensitivity of the case that’s all the information he could share at this time.

Entry was gained at each location by breaking windows or breaking glass in doors, police said. The perpetrators were in search of cash, seeking entry into case registers, according to police.

Wilson said the case has required a lot of leg work by Detective Jim Tharp and other officers. “They’ve done great work. I’m really proud of them,” the police chief remarked.

On the morning that the break-ins were discovered, police told The Landmark that the first alarm notification was received shortly after 4:30 a.m. Police conducted a check of businesses in town to discover that a total of five locations had been hit.

Police that day described the loss of cash as relatively small, “basically daily start-up cash.” The largest loss would likely be in the form of the physical damage to gain entry, police indicated.

Sonic, Fetterman’s Deli and Pizza Shoppe are in close proximity to one another. Fetterman’s and Pizza Shoppe are in the same strip mall, at opposite ends of the strip, in the 2400 block of NW Prairie View Road. Sonic is located a short distance away, on the opposite side of Running Horse Road, with an address of 1308 Platte Falls Road.

Meanwhile, Dollar General and Roxanne’s Café are in close proximity, both located in the High Pointe Shops area at 1100 Branch Street (Hwy. 92).
