Mr. and Mrs. L. Kyle Hern of Platte City announce the birth of their son on Wednesday, May 30, 1979 at the North Kansas City Hospital.
The Platte County Fair Queen contest will be held again this year in conjunction with the Platte County Fair July 18-21. There will be a public pageant with swimsuit and evening gown competition. The coronation will be held the first night of the fair. Anyone interested in being a contestant should contact Mrs. Andy M. Jones of Kansas City.
The Christian Women’s Fellowship of the Christian Church of Platte City met Thursday. Installation of officers was as follows: president, Mrs. Helen Porter; vice president, Sarah Jane Higgins; secretary-treasurer, Lorene Cox. The Rev. Lester Weeks showed slides of the Holy Land.

Mr. and Mrs. Tom Sifers of Platte City announce the birth of their daughter, Ashley Lynn, on May 24, 1979 at Missouri Methodist Hospital in St. Joseph.
Platte County commissioners have scheduled a public meeting to be held Monday at 7 p.m. in the administration building to let Platte Countians hear a presentation by senior management of Boomtown, a Nevada-based company interested in building and operating a gaming and entertainment complex on the Missouri River in unincorporated Platte County.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth A. Johnson of Chesterfield, Mo. announce the engagement of their daughter, Jennifer Lynn Johnson to Chad A. Berg of Kansas City, Mo. Berg’s parents are Linda Berg of Kansas City and Delbert Berg of Platte City. Miss Johnson is a graduate of Parkway West High School and a 1993 graduate of Southwest Missouri State University. Berg is a graduate of West Platte High School and a 1994 graduate of Southwest Missouri State University.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate the 60th wedding anniversary of Jim and Elma Batterson with a reception from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, June 18, 1994 at the First Baptist Church of Platte City. The event is hosted by their son and wife, Bob and Joyce Batterson and their grandson, Dr. J. Robert Batterson, Jr. Mr. and Mrs. Batterson lived in Kansas City where they owned Jim’s Music Service and Jim’s Lunchrooms. In 1950, they moved to a farm in Platte County.
