Platte County commissioners presented Betty Wallingford with a resolution honoring her for 28 years of service in the Platte County Sheriff’s Department on Thursday. Wallingford, who has served as supervisor of the civilian unit for 28 years, is the longest-serving county employee and deputy in the sheriff’s department. When Wallingford began her career in the sheriff’s department, her mother was a deputy serving as matron and cook and her father-in-law was a deputy, serving as a bailiff.
On Monday, April 24, Saint Luke’s Northland Hospital honored Ruth Reeves of Platte City as the 1995 Volunteer of the Year during its annual Volunteer Recognition Banquet. Reeves has given 5,000 hours of service and dedication to the hospital’s Smithville campus. Reeves joined the Saint Luke’s Northland Hospital Auxiliary in 1975 as a charter member. During her tenure, she has visited with patients’ families in the surgery waiting room, helped in the volunteer craft room, assisted at the information desk and lightened the work load in patient accounts.
Pat Rickel, a resident of Platte Woods, will begin city employment as city clerk in Platte City on June 12. She is currently the medical staff coordinator at Independence Regional Health Center and previously served seven years as assistant city clerk for Prairie Village.
