Brad Gates, a 6’1″ 240 pound offensive lineman for the Platte County Pirates football team, has signed a letter of intent to play football at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. Gates, who battled injuries during his career with the Pirates, was a starter on the line for Platte County.


Richard and Sandra Gooch of Kansas City North have announced the engagement of their daughter, Kendra Gooch, to Steven Paul Schoeman of Overland Park, son of Paul and Audrey Schoeman of New Hartford, Iowa.

With the advent of more favorable weather in the last week the new $3.2 million Platte City Middle School has seemingly sprung from the ground overnight. School officials expect to start using the building during next winter.


A school record total of 10 Platte County Pirates have qualified for the state wrestling meet on the basis of their finish in the top four in their weight divisions at the sectional meet held Saturday in Lexington: John Fugett, John Swaney, Jeff Thomas, Clint Rodgers, Bryan Essary, Justin Gifford, Joe Cossette, Billy Kossen, Todd Gair and Kevin Burge.


A surprise celebration was held Sunday, Feb. 10 in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Smither’s 55th wedding anniversary. The event was hosted by their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Smither, J.D. and Allison of Parkville.
