A Platte County jury on Tuesday handed down a guilty verdict in the case of a mother accused of committing an act of sodomy with her six-year-old biological daughter. The Platte County Division of Family Services had taken the victim and her two siblings into protective custody in 1991. The mother, 25, was allowed supervised visits with her daughter at the daughter’s counselor’s office. Prosecutors said the molestation occurred in the bathroom at the counselor’s office between Feb. 1, 1994 and March 1, 1994 during three supervised visits. The counselor’s office is located in Kansas City in Platte County.

A few hardy souls enjoyed the Platte City Swimming Pool on opening day Saturday before heavy rain closed the facility. However, the pool staff under the direction of manager Beth Taulbee is ready for longer and busier days to come. A family season pass good for immediate family members who reside in the same home costs $85; a single adult or child pass is $50; daily fees are $1.50 for a child under age 10 and $2 for age 10 and older. Hours are Monday-Saturday 12-7 and Sunday 1-6.
