Comedian and late night talk show host Jay Leno is the exclusive comedy act at Zona Rosa’s annual charity event to benefit Synergy Services. Stand Up for Synergy, which has sold out each of its past three years, is sure to attract even more attendees this year with a new venue featuring the popular host of The Tonight Show.
The Central Platte Fire District met with a rather chilly resistance from the Platte County Planning and Zoning Commission Tuesday evening. The district’s request for a burn tower went up in flames. Board members went against planning and zoning staff recommendations and decided in a 7-2 vote not to grant the stream setback waiver and the special use permit that the fire department would need to build a training facility near the intersection of Farmer’s Lane and Hwy. HH east of Platte City. The decision to refuse the requested waivers and permits came after more than two hours of conversation about the proposed burn tower.
The Missouri Department of Transportation began construction work on the White Aloe Branch Bridge over Hwy. 9 near Parkville this week. Built in 1922, the current bridge is functionally obsolete and carries more than 9,000 vehicles per day. A new bridge will accommodate the higher traffic volume, ease congestion and ensure a safer route into Downtown Parkville.
