Police, ambulance, fire and other emergency officials conducted a mock drunk driving disaster in front of Platte County High School Tuesday morning. “Project Graduation” was designed to warn students of the dangers of mixing alcohol and driving as prom and graduation events approach at this time of year. Some R-3 students served as actors, role-playing the parts of victims. In a Landmark photo, an innocent driver in the foreground is dead after being thrown through the windshield of his car. He was not wearing a seat belt. In the background is a vehicle with a drinking driver behind the wheel. Passengers in the vehicle were played by Amanda Eggen, Mike Lessenden, and Mike Varel. Some of the agencies involved in the mock disaster were the Northland Regional Ambulance District, Platte County Sheriff’s Department, Platte City Police Department, the anti-drug/anti-alcohol group Community 2000, Central Platte Fire Department and Life Flight Helicopter.
In two unrelated child support cases, the Platte County Prosecutor’s Office was successful Tuesday in collecting over $13,000 in child support payments, said Platte County Prosecutor Todd Graves. “Financial support is the most basic responsibility of parenthood. Enforcing that responsibility helps not only children but also taxpayers by keeping single parent families off the welfare rolls,” said Graves.
