FARR STRESSING COMMITMENT TO PUBLIC EDUCATION

The Platte County Assessor’s Office is announcing the implementation of its sales validation process alongside a renewed commitment to public education and community outreach, ensuring residents understand how property values are determined and maintained.

As part of its responsibility to provide fair and accurate property assessments, the assessor’s office reviews and analyzes real estate sales throughout the county. This process—known as sales validation—is essential to maintaining equitable valuations that reflect current market conditions.

To support this effort, the assessor’s office is proud to introduce Carrie Haskey as the sales validation and education coordinator, who will serve as a primary point of contact for property owners throughout this process.

What is Sales Validation?
Sales validation is the process of reviewing property sales to determine whether they represent fair market value. Not all sales qualify as valid indicators of market value, and each transaction is carefully reviewed to ensure accuracy.

During this process, the assessor’s office may:

·Review sale prices and property characteristics
·Verify whether the sale was an arm’s-length transaction
·Identify unusual conditions that may affect the sale price (such as family transfers, foreclosures, or special circumstances)
·Contact buyers, sellers, or real estate professionals when additional clarification is needed
This information helps ensure that property assessments are based on true market activity, not distorted or non-representative sales.
What Property Owners Can Expect
As part of the sales validation process, some property owners may receive:
·A mail questionnaire requesting basic sale information
·A phone call or follow-up contact for clarification
·A request to confirm property details

These communications may come directly from Carrie Haskey, who will be working closely with property owners to gather accurate and helpful information.

Participation is voluntary, but responses are extremely valuable in helping the assessor’s office maintain fair and accurate property values for all taxpayers.

All information collected is used strictly for assessment purposes and is handled in accordance with Missouri law.

Commitment to Transparency and Public Education
The Platte County Assessor’s Office recognizes that property assessment can be complex and, at times, misunderstood. That is why the office is expanding its focus on education and outreach to ensure residents have clear, accessible information about how the process works.

“Our role is not only to assess property—it is to help the public understand what we do and why we do it,” said assessor Marcus Farr. “Transparency builds trust, and we want every property owner to feel informed and confident in the process.”

Community Outreach and Engagement Opportunities

As part of this initiative, Carrie Haskey will also be leading education and outreach efforts across Platte County.

The assessor’s office is available to participate in:

·Town halls
·Community meetings
·Neighborhood forums
·Civic and school group presentations

Residents, organizations, and local leaders are encouraged to reach out to coordinate an informational session tailored to their community’s needs.

“We want to meet people where they are,” Farr said. “If there’s an opportunity to educate, answer questions, or provide clarity, we are ready and willing to be part of that conversation.”

Our Mission
The mission of the Platte County Assessor’s Office remains clear:

Fairness. Accuracy. Transparency.

Through responsible sales validation and proactive community engagement, the office is committed to ensuring every property owner is treated equitably and has access to the information they need.
