More than $500,000 in park grants have been awarded by the Platte County Commission this year, using proceeds from the county’s quarter cent sales tax for parks and stormwater.
The commission on Monday approved contract agreements with receiving agencies whose projects had been chosen in a selection process by the county.
In many previous years the county has awarded $250,000 in park grants but this year agreed to hand out $500,000 in what Joe Vanover, second district commissioner, has called ‘the year of the parks.’
The following list of project grants have been awarded:
City of Parkville, $80,000, trail to new inclusive playground at Platte Landing Park.
City of Riverside, $70,000, EH Young Riverfront Park central restroom.
Kansas City Northern Miniature Railroad, $15,000, expansion project for picnic grove.
North Platte School District, $20,000, install a customizable scoreboard.
City of Camden Point, $26,280, replacing benches and picnic tables along trail in park.
City of Dearborn, $87,056, Vaughn Park shelter.
City of Dearborn, $1,000, bridge update on Dean Park walking trail.
City of Houston Lake, $50,000, Houston Lake bridge repair.
City of Weatherby Lake, $45,013, Community Center park playground zipline.
City of Weston (Weston Park Board), $27,000, resurfacing of Holladay Park’s pickleball/basketball courts.
Northland Sports Alliance, $9,500, concessions upgrade, new golf cart, new griddle and two chili cheese machines.
Park University and Parkville Nature Sanctuary, $10,000, access amenities project including new signs and drinking/water bottle filling station.
City of Weston, $20,750, capital maintenance for historic train depot, bluff trailhead, Lewis & Clark Museum.
Platte County Historical & Genealogical Society, $4,309, preservation and microfilm enhancement at museum.
Edgerton Community Betterment Association, $2,605.50, Edgerton Pioneer Days 2026.
KC Northern Miniature Railroad, $2,700, 2026 World Cup international visitor prep, flyers, flags, banners.
