An estimated 5,000 people are expected to turn out for the first Battle of Bee Creek Civil War re-enactment April 20 and 21, supporters said this week, and a lot of food is required.


Building plans of the Mid-Continent Public Library System call for expansion of the branch library at Platte City and Smithville. The library district will ask voters to approve a transfer of the seven cent building levy to the operating levy in an election on June 4.

Dick Stephens, former alderman of Platte City, has high hopes of developing an animal shelter for Platte City and establishing a humane society. He said in order for it to work he will need some more volunteers to help him with the idea.


James L. Rainey, recently retired president and chief executive of Farmland Industries, Inc., will be the keynote speaker at the seventh annual Business Salutes Excellence in Education Banquet sponsored by the Northland Chamber of Commerce.


Barring any unforeseen disaster, both the Barry Elementary School addition and the new Platte City Middle School will be open for classes this fall, Don Siegrist, Platte County R-3 School District superintendent, said this week.
