Things I think I think, Flock cameras

I’ve been collecting quite a plethora of things I think I think; also known as not great opinions. Gotta get them out of the noggin to concentrate on spring. Here we go:

•If you’re a Chief’s fan and think Tyreek Hill is a good fit to come back to Kansas City, please put down your drink, you’ve had too much. Dude is hurt; quit on his last team and the Chiefs new mantra is “accountability.” He’s not the answer.

•The World Cup in Kansas City is going to be partly exciting, partly frustrating, and mostly entertainment to those of us not invested in the event. I’m kind of looking forward to the show but I suspect I’ll be sick of it after a month.

•This Royals team is sending out some serious 2013 vibes. That was the year we knew by the end of the season that the next couple of years were going to be special. I know most of us would prefer this be a 2014 type year, I don’t think we are there yet.

•I’m headed to spring training in a couple of weeks to check out the boys in blue. The family has gone off and on over the years and quite honestly, it’s not as neat as it used to be. Like most things, everything is more structured now and less laid back. Screens, security, and the like are the new norm. Trust the science.

•The politicians promising to do something “special” at the Truman Sports Complex after the Chiefs and Royals leave has made me laugh out loud more than once. What in the world are they talking about? What exactly is going to draw more people than two major league franchises? They going with a waffle house? Strip club? I just don’t see anything great happening there.

•I am “gonna cross the border for medicine” years old when I go to Arizona later this month. Wish me well. If I get stuck down there, at least know that I’ll have my medicine and plenty of tequila.

•Why can we not find Savannah Guthrie’s mom? That’s starting to bother me. I might work on that while I’m down there as well.

•How many “Streetcar” stories will the local news run during World Cup? Too many is my over/under. Check with Foley for the “bet the mortgage” number.

Flock cameras are all the rage among government. These are basically cameras that can track all of us and our movements. It’s scary stuff if you even remotely recall being free. There is an online map of all the cameras for Kansas City metro that I found interesting. Good news for us is that almost all of the cameras are south of Highway 152 and none west of Highway 169. Platte County remains primarily a “Flock Camera Desert” and you should want it to stay that way. If you want your government to keep an eye on you, there is a camera at Barry Road and North Oak that can read your face and license plate, drive by there to get your government intrusion fix.

Anyway, you’re going to hear this more and more and it will all be for “your safety and protection,” which means it is not for “your safety and protection.” Carry on.

(Guy Speckman can be reached trying to keep the government informed by driving through Flock Camera intersections)
