Former President Gerald Ford, in a Platte County appearance Saturday, described President Jimmy Carter as a man who “tries to make himself a hero out of disasters he has created” and likened him to an arsonist “who starts fires and then tries to be there to put out the flames.” Speaking at a fundraiser for Tom Coleman at the Hilton Airport Plaza Inn, Ford termed Carter’s economic policies a disaster, energy programs “totally misdirected” and foreign policy “confusing, contradictory, dangerous and an outrage.”
“For $68,500, it’s a bargain.” That’s what Alan Goodwin, building trades instructor at Platte County R-3 School District, affirms. He’s referring to the house constructed by Platte County High School students under his direction. The $68,500 is the minimum bid, and they can reject any and all bids, but they hope to get more than that for the solidly constructed building.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Renz of Platte City celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Sunday, May 16. In honor of the occasion, a family dinner was provided in the home of Jimmy Renz.
