Former President Gerald Ford, in a Platte County appearance Saturday, described President Jimmy Carter as a man who “tries to make himself a hero out of disasters he has created” and likened him to an arsonist “who starts fires and then tries to be there to put out the flames.” Speaking at a fundraiser for Tom Coleman at the Hilton Airport Plaza Inn, Ford termed Carter’s economic policies a disaster, energy programs “totally misdirected” and foreign policy “confusing, contradictory, dangerous and an outrage.”

“For $68,500, it’s a bargain.” That’s what Alan Goodwin, building trades instructor at Platte County R-3 School District, affirms. He’s referring to the house constructed by Platte County High School students under his direction. The $68,500 is the minimum bid, and they can reject any and all bids, but they hope to get more than that for the solidly constructed building.
