In an email to parents on Monday, Jan. 13, the Platte County R-3 School District wrote the following:

“We are writing to inform you that on Jan. 7, 2025, we were notified by PowerSchool, our student information system provider, that they experienced a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to certain PowerSchool customer data.

“Unfortunately, this data breach has impacted our school district, along with many others across the state, nation, and globally.

“The taken data primarily includes student and staff contact information with data elements such as name and address. Across PowerSchool’s customer base, they have determined that for a portion of individuals, some personally identifiable information, such as Social Security numbers and medical alert information, was also impacted,” the district wrote.

The school’s email to parents goes on to say:

“PowerSchool is working to complete their investigation and determine whether personally identifiable information belonging to our students and staff members was included.”

Parents wanting more information form PowerSchool can go to this link: powerschool.com/security/sis-incident/

“After receiving the results of PowerSchool’s investigation, we will provide you with an update. Additional information and resources (including credit monitoring or identity protection services, if applicable) will also be provided to you as it becomes available,” school officials said.
