The city’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP) will expand after a contentious discussion by Platte City’s Board of Aldermen. A resolution to increase the amount of curbs being replaced in the 2009 CIP passed the board with a vote of 4-2 on Monday. The measure increases the footage of curbs being replaced by 215 feet, resulting in an increase of $7,525.

Platte City is no longer considering providing a school resource officer (SRO) to the Platte County R-3 School District. Previously, Richard Sayles, police chief, said the city was approached by the school about the possibility of providing the SRO again at the school. Sayles said there was a grant available to pay for the salary of the employee. The SRO would be an employee of the city and would work as an officer while not stationed at the school. However at the public safety subcommittee meeting last week, Sayles said he had hit a snag while filling out the paperwork for the grant and “it doesn’t look as promising as it did before.”

Platte City’s parks board has a new member after the board of aldermen approved the appointment of Ken Bruene on Monday. Bruene is now the seventh member of the nine seat board. Earlier the board dipped to only having four members but an effort by Mayor Frank Offutt has resulted in three new appointments with another expected in May.
