An open house celebrating the 60th anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Bless will be held Sunday, April 17 from 2-5 p.m. at their home at 1024 Spring Street in Weston. Friends and relatives are invited to attend. Mary Ruth Crow and Charles A. Bless were married April 14, 1934 in Marshall, Mo. They are the former owners and publishers of The Weston Chronicle. The couple has shared 60 years of marriage, nine children, 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.


The Platte County Eagles Special Olympics basketball team won a gold medal for their division at the Kansas City Metropolitan Special Olympics held recently at Central High School. This was the Eagles’ third year of competition and they won their two contests by scores of 18-6 and 23-4.

A facility committee for the Platte County R-3 School District will recommend to the R-3 school board that a new elementary school be built “in or near Platte City.” It will also be recommended that East Platte Elementary be closed, that a new gym be built at Barry School, and that air conditioning be installed at the high school in Platte City. The suggested plan from the facility committee also includes renovating the current Barry School gym for instructional purposes.
