The final meeting of the Platte City Study Club for this year will be held May 18, 1978 featuring a brunch at the home of Mrs. Gordon Miller. Mark Cutler, choir director at Platte County High School, will present musical selections by his students.


The weekend of May 19-20 will be full of activity as the Platte City Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring sidewalk sales with lots of bargains all over town. On Saturday, “Moments in History” will be celebrated by all Platte Countians in Platte City. These events are sponsored by the Platte City Chamber of Commerce and the Platte City Masonic Lodge to celebrate the placing of a cornerstone on the northeast corner of the Platte County Courthouse. A memorial marker dedication ceremony will be held at the Ben Ferrel Museum in the afternoon. The Platte City Lions Club will be having a fish fry on the courthouse lawn and entertainment and street dancing will be featured in the evening.

“Celebrate the Spirit: The Church’s Power” will be the theme of worship as the United Methodists of Platte City celebrate the beginning of the season of Pentecost and the festival of the Christian Home this Sunday. Rev. Kyle L. Hern will deliver a sermon entitled “The Spirit of Love” this Sunday.
