The search continues for Highway Patrol Officer Fred Guthrie Jr. who was last seen Aug. 1 while performing flood patrol duty in Holt County. The 17-year veteran of the force is presumed to have drowned after the body of his K-9 partner, Reed, was found in the flooded area near Guthrie’s abandoned patrol car and boat. Guthrie had been patrolling the northern Missouri area where the flooding Missouri River left residences and businesses abandoned and open to looting. Guthrie is survived by his wife and three children.
Platte City Alderman Charles Cook faces six months of court-supervised probation after entering a guilty plea to third degree sexual misconduct. His trial on the charge was set to begin the day he made the plea. Cook, 59, admitted that he asked a woman to engage in sexual conduct as he drove her home from work. His attorney told the court that Cook would be retiring from his employment with a natural gas service company in October.
Residents living near Bello Mondo and Florentina addressed Platte City aldermen about the feral cat population overrunning their neighborhood. Homeowner Ron Britt said an organization called the Kitty Cat Connection has been feeding neighborhood cats, while also starting to attract raccoons and opossums. The city’s public safety subcommittee agreed to investigate the issue.
