The Landmark exclusively can report a motion to terminate the employment of Keith Moody, longtime city administrator, was approved by a majority of the Platte City Board of Aldermen Tuesday night. The decision to fire Moody was made on a split vote of 4-2. Aldermen voting in favor of dismissal were Aaron Jung, Ron Stone, Andy Stanton and Kenneth Brown. Voting against were Marsha Clark and Todd Sloan. Clark confirmed the action in a conversation with The Landmark Wednesday morning. It appears Moody is free to continue to perform his duties while a severance package is negotiated. Reached on his cell phone, Mayor Dave Brooks didn’t deny the action in a conversation with The Landmark. Asked if he had a comment on the dismissal of Moody, Brooks responded: “I don’t have a comment for you. Over the years you have never given Keith or I a fair shake about anything. So I don’t have a comment for you.” Brooks then hung up on the phone. Moody was reached shortly after noon on Wednesday, saying: “I can’t comment on personnel matters.”
City Hall at Parkville has been abuzz with reports that Deborah Hammond of Parkville has been removed from her position as an administrative assistant. According to a Landmark source, the lock on Hammond’s office door has been changed and her access card to the premises was deactivated. City officials recently hired a firm specializing in human resources to investigate claims of falsified time sheets, among other things. Hammond denies a firing, says she’s vacationing.
