When the Platte County Salary Commission meets on Oct. 31, it is expecting a detailed report from the county counselor on legal options available to the county officeholders in regard to the setting of their salaries. The salary commission met last week and at that gathering a motion to keep county officeholder salaries at their current levels was defeated by a 6-2 vote.

A Kansas City man has been charged with carrying a loaded firearm onto school property. John P. Michael, 74, was charged this week with misdemeanor unlawful use of a weapon for carrying his gun onto Park Hill High School grounds. The man was on the school property the night of Oct. 10 for a Park Hill Community Education program. On his way out of the building, the man tripped in the parking lot and the concealed .22 caliber handgun fell out of his coat pocket. He did not realize the weapon was missing until Thursday morning and return to the lot to search the area.
