The Platte City Athletic Association and the Platte City Men’s Softball Association will co-host a 16-team men’s slow pitch tournament beginning Wednesday, Aug. 3 at 6:15 p.m. at the Platte City diamond and continue through Sunday, Aug. 7. This tournament is being dedicated to the late George McMillian and all entry fees and contributions will be donated to the American Heart Association and to the First Baptist Church.


The 1977 national Scout Jamboree will be held at Moraine State Park, Pennsylvania Aug. 3-9. The them of this month’s ninth national Scout Jamboree will be “Forward Together–Scouting USA.” Jamboree scouts from Platte County are Jerry Collier, Weston; Scott Fleshman, Weston; Raymond Kirk, Weston; Roger Wagoner, Camden Point; and Roger Cole, Platte City.

United in marriage on June 25 at First Christian Church of Platte City were Jane A. Cox, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Billy G. Cox of Platte City, and Scott E. Williams, son of Mr. and Mrs. Billy J. Williams of Gravois Mills, Mo. Rev. Lester Weeks performed the double ring ceremony. Mrs. Janet Leachman was the organist and soloist was David Wood. A reception and buffet followed at the home of the bride’s parents. Serving at the bride’s table were Mrs. Margaret Koppenaal and Miss Kay Williams, sisters of the groom.
