EDITOR:

I would like to thank The Landmark Newspaper for informing us about the Metropolitan Community College tax levy.

The real purpose of a news conference

I looked over the April 6 election ballot and read the “Metropolitan Community College” question. Nowhere is the language of “annexation” or “tax increase” in this proposal.

Personally, I like honesty and transparency in what I’m voting for. If you are going to increase our taxes, say it on the ballot.

When were we, the voters, going to find out about our tax increase? On our tax bill? What about our town businesses? They pay more taxes (by percentage) than the homeowners do. What about our Mom and Pop stores? They have been hit by COVID, they are doing their best to recover and now they could get hit by an additional tax? I had a small business owner tell me that they are barely surviving and if they have an additional tax they will be out of business. Is this what we want?

I think we all have been taxed enough. It’s time for all of us voters to come together and vote NO on the Metropolitan Community College Question, which, by they way, will be a forever tax.
