A 26-year-old man from Clay County and an inmate in the Platte County Jail escaped Wednesday evening by smashing out of a cell window and fleeing. He was being held on a charge of armed robbery. He used a piece of a bench he had broken to shatter the window. He was picked up later Wednesday night in the North Kansas City area. This is the second escape attempt since the new jail was put in service about two months ago.
