Civil War reenactors Jim Kimsey and Bob Werline set up camp outside Platte City Middle School last week to give students a more personal understanding of the Civil War. The reenactors will be some of the 1,200 reenactors participating in the Battle of Bee Creek June 11 and 12.


North Platte Elementary in Camden Point will become the Wild, Wild West for the PTA’s annual carnival 4:30 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 30. Twenty-six different games are planned including a “cow patty throw,” “cactus ring” and “candle shoot.” Families are encouraged to come for dinner and sample some western specialties like chuck wagon chili and prairie chicken soup. Tickets are available at the door. All proceeds will be used to provide programs and equipment for the school.

The children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of George and Mabel Kerns will host a reception in honor of their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, April 24, 1994 from 2-4 p.m. at Parkville Christian Church, 6601 Northwest 72nd St., Kansas City. The couple requests no gifts.


Jill Wade was officially sworn in as alderman of ward two in Platte City at last week’s board of aldermen meeting.
