Demolition of some retail storefronts just south of Dillard’s has begun as part of the first phase of a redevelopment of Zona Rosa, the shopping complex at Interstate 29 and Barry Road. As of Thursday, Oct. 22, early demolition efforts had left piles of rubble in a fenced-in area along NW 87th Terrace in Zona Rosa. This area will eventually be the site of a new green space for outdoor community events and activities. Other planned improvements include additional seating, wayfinding, landscaping and public art throughout the center as well as upgrades to the Town Square area to include a new splash park, covered outdoor seating and new stage for community festivals and concerts. Officials with Trademark Property Company, new managers of the shopping complex that has experienced financial struggles in recent years, have said the goal is to make Zona Rosa “a central hub for the Northland community.”
