Lauren Peters, a 7-year-old student at Renner Elementary School in the Park Hill R-5 School District, wrote and illustrated a children’s book, “Problems at the North Pole.” She then entered in the 1989 Landmark Editions, Inc. national contest and had the honor of winning first-place, receiving a $5,000 college scholarship. Lauren is the daughter of Marsha and Victor Peters of Kansas City. Peters is the Platte County prosecuting attorney.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Guinn of Faucett, Mo., are announcing the engagement and forthcoming marriage of his daughter, Cynthia Ann, to Mr. Bradley D. Delk, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Delk of Platte City. Cynthia is also the daughter of Mrs. Edie Guinn, formerly of Platte City. The wedding will be on Sept. 29, 1990 at the DeKalb Christian Church.
Platte City Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor an open adult co-ed volleyball league at the Platte City High School gym, starting Sept. 12 and going until Nov. 14.
The U.S. Census Bureau preliminary report shows that Platte City has a population of 2,945 with 1,277 housing units. This compares to the 1980 figure of 2,114 population with 866 housing units. The 1970 population of Platte City was 2,022 with 741 housing units.
