Here’s my take. I’ve known Joe Vanover for over 15 years, along with Julie and their family. For most of that time Joe Vanover was a prosecutor for Platte County which makes Joe intimately aware of the courthouse on a law enforcement level. Now Joe Vanover is in private law practice but maintains the same determination and drive helping people prepare for the future and overcome challenges.
In talking with Joe about why he has thrown his hat in the ring he tells me he wants Platte County to remain a wonderful place to raise a family and build a life. Joe says, “We don’t know what challenges we will face in the future, but I will bring my solutions-focused approach to county government.” With a law degree, Joe brings a rational, logical, investigative approach to each issue that the commission will face and that type of background will be a huge help in dealing with the current problems within the commission.
I met David Park at one of the commission meetings. Seems like a nice enough fellow. However, and this is a formidable however, as a 35 year bureaucrat working in Kansas City government, I count that as an indictment rather than something to tout as a qualification. We need fresh, new blood in the Platte County Commission. A zebra cannot change his stripes. When a Democrat tries to portray himself as a helper for the Republicans, watch out. They will always default to their basic liberal tenets. Do we really want a career bureaucrat from City Hall in Kansas City to tell us how to run local Platte County government? I think not. On the other hand…
While it is not always good to bring politics into the church, bringing Christian values, morality, integrity, conscience, into the work place will always pay dividends. Joe brings these and much more with the addition of a Juris Doctorate to help guide the commission from within.
On Nov. 3, vote Joe Vanover for second district commissioner.
