Platte County Prosecutor Todd P. Graves has filed murder charges against a Weston man accused of shooting and killing his girlfriend in April. Graves contends that David H. Myszka, 39, shot Janice L. Rodriguez, 47, in the chest with a .32 caliber handgun on April 28. Myszka and Rodriguez were living together at the time.

Graves charged Myszka with second degree murder in the shooting, a Class A felony punishable by a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
In addition, Graves charged Myszka with armed criminal action, also a Class A felony.

Platte City residents are reminded municipal codes prohibit the sale of fireworks inside the city limits and restrict the type and usage for the discharge of fireworks.

The discharge of fireworks is permitted only on July 4 and then in an area located at least 500 feet from the business district or from any gasoline station. Bottle rockets are prohibited at any time or in any location within the city limits.

According to the wording of the city’s ordinance, “it is unlawful for any person to throw or otherwise deposit, or attempt to throw or deposit, any firecrackers or other combustible fireworks whatsoever into, at or upon any motor vehicle, or any person or group of persons or so near any such person or group of persons as to endanger anyone.”

Safety and common courtesy for neighbors is urged by city officials. Violators will be prosecuted.
