JOE WELLINGTON RETIRING APRIL 1
Joe Wellington is adamant that he is retiring effective April 1 as chief of police for Platte City.
Around 40 applicants have put their name in the hat, seeking to be his replacement.
Interviews are under way this week, says Tom Cole, city administrator for the City of Platte City.
“The mayor (Steve Hoeger), Joe (Wellington) and I will start doing video interviews with them this week,” Cole said. “We’ll be doing first round interviews with them till 8 or 9 each night of the week.”
Those interviews will be done by video, he explained.
Their goal is to pull off three or four candidates that really stand out and have them come in to meet with the board of aldermen, Cole said.
Second round of interviews will be after the first of the year, according to the city administrator.
“We have some really fantastic candidates,” he added.
Though Wellington will not be leaving the post until April 1, Cole said the city wants to get the new person on board “to hang out with Joe for a month or so” prior to that.
It sounds like the choice will be made well in advance of that.
“Toward the end of January we should know we think it is,” Cole said.
