The Ark of Angels Day Care Center on Hwy. HH, Platte City, received an award last week for the children’s efforts in promoting the use of seat belts in vehicles. Presenting the plaque was Arvid E. West Jr., director of the Missouri Division of Highway Safety. Children receiving the award were Tara Andre, 8, Bruce Rothrock, 9, and Brian Connel, 7. The three youngsters conducted a survey to see how many use seat belts. “If we can get your parents to use them we will save 500 lives per year,” West told the kids.

The North Platte R-1 Board of Education last week voted to cut taxes and approved a no smoking police for all school buildings in the district. The board approved a $4.10 school tax levy after rollback, making the levy 10 cents lower than last year. The ban on smoking was requested last year by the Student Council and endorsed by the board. Smoking will be permitted only outside of the buildings.
