Roseann Smith joined the Platte County Prosecuting Attorney’s office April 1. As first assistant, Smith will handle all child abuse, sex and homicide prosecutions as well as the upper punishment Class A and Class B felony prosecutions and a variety of administrative duties. She comes to Platte County from the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office, where she earned a variety of honors, including being named trial prosecutor of the year for 1994.


Mr. and Mrs. Gary Deering of Plattsburg and Mr. and Mrs. Randy Cannon of Platte City announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their children, Michelle Leann Deering and Mark Paul Cannon. The future bride is a 1992 graduate of Plattsburg High School and will graduate in December from Missouri Western State College with a degree in accounting. The future groom is a 1991 graduate of Platte County R-3 High School and a graduate of the United States Air Force Fire Academy at Chanute AFB, Illinois. He is employed as a firefighter by the City of Kansas City, Mo. and is a senior airman, firefighters, with the Missouri Air National Guard in St. Joseph.

Following the recommendations of elementary school principals Ron Harmon and Gregg McPherson, the Platte County R-3 School Board raised the requirements for early entrance into kindergarten at a meeting Thursday night.
